What Is a Self-Hypnotic State?

The power of hypnosis in a clinical setting is to coach, guide, instruct, and train subjects to a healthier lifestyle through self-hypnosis. The self-hypnotic state is a state of relaxed concentration that anyone can enter naturally. The hypnotist guides the client into the self-hypnotic state during sessions through an induction, which is usually progressive relaxation. The hypnotist's guidance helps the client enter this state more easily and effectively. 

While the client is in a hypnotic state, the hypnotist suggests ways for the client to achieve their goals for the session through real-time processing of feelings and events and post-hypnotic suggestions that work after the session.
